Head Start/Early Head Start

Delta Head Start/Early Head Start offers free, high-quality child development services to income-eligible families with children ages 4 months to 5 years old. Delta Head Start/Early Head Start is child-focused learning but also provides comprehensive services to the child’s family.

Delta Head Start and Early Head Start proudly operate several early childhood learning centers in East Carroll, Madison, and Richland Parishes Louisiana.

Children who attend Head Start and Early Head Start participate in a variety of educational activities. They also receive free medical and dental care, have healthy meals and snacks, and enjoy playing indoors and outdoors in a safe setting. Head Start helps all children succeed. Services are offered to meet the special needs of children with disabilities. Most children in Head Start are between the ages of three and five years old.

Early Head Start program provides comprehensive, year-round, child and family development services, extended social services, preventative health and prenatal education services to the parents of infants and toddlers. If needed, we assist parents in obtaining a medical home. There are currently three Early Head Start centers and one Home-Based option that provide services to nearly 69 infants, toddlers, and pregnant women in East Carroll, Madison and Richland Parishes.

During weekly home-based option visits, trained Early Head Start staff plan activities with families to foster the child’s development, increase family literacy, promote healthy parent-child relationships, provide parenting support and education, and assist expectant families in preparing for their new baby.
